1. Hoover (6-1) 6A Homewood, this week’s opponent, has struggled in 6A this season but has had its moment – like a dramatic 40-37 overtime win at Spain Park. Hoover is struggling to find playmakers – especially after being knocked from its No. 1 national ranking. 1
2. Prattville (7-0) 6A Nothing seems to slow the Lions – now without a doubt the top team in 6A in the South. This week: at Stanhope Elmore. 3
3. Vestavia Hills (6-1) 6A More than 14,000 watched the Rebels match top-ranked Hoover blow-for-blow last week. A big challenge this week is at very talented Minor. 3
4. Daphne (4-1) 6A The Trojans are rolling now and should have no trouble with LeFlore at home Friday. 9
5. Gadsden City (7-0) 6A A double-OT win over Pell City last week continues to reinforce the idea that this group of Titans are for real. A road trip to Hewitt-Trussville Friday could be a major stumbling block, however. 8
6. Foley (6-1) 6A oosevelt Byrd threw for almost 400 yards last week in a 32-18 win over Niceville, Fl. This week: Robertsdale comes calling Friday. 4
7. Opelika (6-1) 6A An easy win over Central-Phenix City last week. A much tougher contest looms Friday at Enterprise as the 6A, Region 3 title could go to the winner. 5
8. Russellville (7-0) 5A The Golden Tigers downed Decatur last week 38-28. This week, West Point will be no match for Perry Swindall’s team. 6
9. Clay-Chalkville (6-1) 6A The Cougars rode the strong arm of junior QB Jesse Carroll, who passed for 448 yards and six TDs – five in the first half of a 53-35 win over Oxford. Clay gets a chance to play at Legion Field Thursday night against Huffman in a key 6A, Region 7 game. Next week is Gadsden City, however. 15
10. Murphy (6-1) 6A The Panthers struggled to beat Blount 16-12.  Alma Bryant at Ladd-Peebles Stadium Friday won’t be much trouble, however. 8
11. Clay Co. (7-0) 3A If there is a better small public school power in America, we haven’t seen it. Clay County goes on the road to Lincoln Friday. 10
12. Sparkman (7-0) 6A The Senators continue to roll in 6A, Region 8. A Thursday night game at Huntsville has the makings of  trouble for Sparkman, however. 11
13. McAdory (6-1) 5A The Yellow Jackets are emerging ass perhaps the top 5A challenger from the south. This week, coach David Powell’s team can win 5A, Region 3 out-right with a win over Shelby County at McCalla. 23
14. Eufaula (7-0) 5A The Tigers have had few challengers in 5A this season. Tallassee, which hosts Eufaula Friday, hopes to change that. 20
15. Fairfield (5-0) 5A The Tigers passed their latest test (27-6 win at Erwin) with flying colors. Another big test is at Pleasant Grove Friday in a key 5A, Region 34 battle. 12
16. UMS-Wright (6-1) 5A The Bulldogs have won 21of their last 22 because they take care of the little things – and have an abundance of talent. Coach Terry Curtis’ Bulldogs will play them all against first-year team Spanish Fort. 17
17. Pelham (6-1) 6A The Panthers are scoring almost at will. This week, the Region 5 title will be on the line with 6A rival Thompson at Alabaster. NR
18. Briarwood Chr. (6-1) 5A A win at Moody will set up a showdown for the 5A, Region 5 title against Chelsea next week. 21
19. T.R. Miller (5-0) 4A The Tigers are amazing. They continue to win year after year. Friday’s opponent is Hillcrest-Evergreen – a road game that will barely cause a sweat for Miller. 25
20. Pike Co. (6-1) 3A A 51-0 win over Headland last week points to a Bulldogs team bent on returning to the Super 6 Class 3A finals. This week:  Slocomb comes calling Friday. 24
21. Fort Payne (7-0) 5A The Wildcats are off to their best start in years. Arab could pose problems if Fort Payne gets complacent, however. NR
22. Parker (6-1) 5A The Thundering Herd has allowed just 36 points all season. Pleasant Grove , Friday’s 5A, Region 4 opponent. The Spartans won’t get many, but neither should Parker. NR
23. Tarrant (7-0) 4A The Wildcats are running through 4A, Region 5 like Sherman though Georgia. This week: Tarrant should make quick work of Fairview Friday night. NR
24. Alexandria (7-0) 4A The Valley Cubs are primed to make a run at the 4A crown. Next game: At Saks Friday. 16
25. McGill-Toolen (6-1) 6A If ever a sleeper existed in 6A, the Yellow Jackets are it. They have quietly developed a real powerhouse. This week: vs. Mary Montgomery at Semmes. 17
